Text: “The just shall live by faith”.
Size & script: app. 400×300 mm, Jali Diwani
Materials and tools: black thick paper, two connected pencils for the letter outlines, silver ink for the letters filling
This piece is a peculiar one, a fruit of an early calligraphy experiment (c. 2000) on the Biblical verse of justification by faith. The traditional cluttered composition suggested by the Jali Diwani script has been relieved by the lack of the characteristic filling of vowels and ornaments; the choice of black paper makes it difficult to work with. One feels more caught on the borderline between calligraphy and lettering, rather than pure calligraphy writing.
